Château Guiraud was originally known as La Maison Noble du Bayle before the Guiraud family took over the Château in 1766. The 100 hectares of Château Guiraud's vineyards are planted to 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc — a very high percentage for the region — on a blend of sand, gravel, clay and limestone soils. In 2011, the vineyards were certified organic by Agence Bio, though they have been practicing organic since 1996. Today, the estate is owned by four of the leading figures in Bordeaux: Xavier Planty (the president of the Sauternes and Barsac appellations and winemaker at Guiraud since 1984), Robert Peugeot (President and General Manager of FFP), Stephan Von Neipperg (who runs the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé Chateaux Cannon La Gaffelière and La Mondotte), and Olivier Bernard (President of the Union des Grand Crus and manager of Domaine de Chevalier in Graves). Their experience, expertise and passion continue to make Château Guiraud one of the top estates in Bordeaux.

The 2009 Château Guiraud is full, rich and sensuous. Concentrated flavors of ripe stone fruit, quince paste, candied orange peel and honeysuckle unfold on the palate. The sweetness is balance by a beautifully fine acidity that last throughout to the long, layered finish that is highlighted by soft notes of almond and gingery spice.
