Château Gloria was conceived in 1942, when Henri Martin purchased his first parcel of vines, a six hectare (15 acre) plot from Château Beychevelle. Over the course of the next forty years, he built Gloria piecemeal, acquiring more plots, little by little, from his esteemed neighbors. Château Gloria is the only estate of its kind-- one carefully assembled with parcels of land exclusively from 1855 classified Saint-Julien vineyards. Today, sitting at 48 hectares (119 acres), Château Gloria has established a reputation for crafting quality wine, true to Saint-Julien, all in the span of one generation.
Château Gloria is a classic representation of Saint-Julien, possessing elegance and finesse, yet displaying exquisite depth and structure. On the nose, it offers notes of black currant, mocha and cedar. With your first sip, you are rewarded with refined red fruit and a delicate suppleness, provided by this wine's extremely well-integrated tannins. The finish is lengthy with a hint of bittersweet chocolate. It is an exquisite wine, perfect with with ratatouille, roast beef, or lamb stew.
