Alcesti - Isola del Satiro - Rosso 2021
Alcesti is a family-owned and operated winery located in Marsala in the Trapani growing region of Sicily. Today, The estate is run by Gianfranco Paladino, who handles everything from winemaking to logistics. Gianfranco's parents help in the vineyards and his sister, Valeria, covers administration. For decades, the Paladino family sold off their grapes to larger wineries in the region, though this changed when Gianfranco took the reins. In 2002, the family completed construction of their own winery and produced their first vintage the following year. The property is comprised of 30 hectares of vines that are farmed organically (certified). Harvest is done manually and fermentation and aging are done in stainless steel. The Paladinos are a family who love their land and their origins and have chosen to honor the splendid Sicilian terroir through their honestly crafted wines.
The Isola del Satiro Rosso is a charming blend of 70% Nero d'Avola and 30% Perricone. This amazing Sicilian red shows a striking ruby red and violet hue in the glass. Wonderful aromas of dark berries and purple flowers intermingle with a delicate, light spice note. On the palate, ripe raspberry, fresh red cherry and lilac flavors dance across the tongue, supported by a gentle, integrated acidity. Soft, delicate tannins balance the fruit concentration and carry it smoothly through a long, satisfying finish. Enjoy with grilled swordfish, eggplant parmigiana or grilled pizza.
