Château La Lagune is classified as a Troisième Cru, or 3rd Growth, in the 1855 Classification of Bordeaux. The vineyards are in Ludon in the Haut-Médoc, one of the few estates outside of Saint Estephe, Pauillac, Saint-Julien and Margaux to be classified. Today, the estate is owned and operated by Caroline Frey, who also runs the famous Paul Jabolet Aîné in Hermitage.
The organic vineyards (certified in 2016) of Château La Lagune are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot on gravel soils in the Médoc. Starting in 2008, Chateau La Lagune began a program of Massal selection, which allows them to propagate their vineyards with their best plant material. The grapes are hand-harvested by a dedicated group of 140 grape-pickers, hand-sorted three times and then fermented in one of 72 temperature-controlled steel vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in 55% new French oak barrels. Lagune's wines are aromatically enchanting and well-structured, displaying an elegance and refinement on par with a great Margaux
