Cascina Vano is a fourth-generation winery located in Neive, Italy. The estate is comprised of fifteen hectares of organically-farmed vineyards located in the heart of the Barbaresco. The Rivetti family has been growing grapes since 1890, though it wasn't until 1960 when Beppe Rivetti transformed the farm into a full bottling winery. Currently Beppe's son Bruno — fourth generation winegrower — runs the property with help from his two children, Beatrice and Marco, who are fully educated on the vineyards, the cellar and each of the Rivetti family's wines. The family's pride and passion is foremost the promotion and preservation of the Langhe. Cascina Vano is part of The Green Experience initiative, which is a collective of Piemontese wine producers who together strive to improve the quality of wines and take care of the soil, the biodiversity and the landscape of the Langhe.

Cascina Vano's Barbaresco Canova is sourced from two different estate vineyards: one with southeastern exposure, the other southwestern. Each vineyard is harvested and fermented separately and fermentation takes place in tank with a 20-day maceration. Once malolactic occurs, the wines are transferred to large, oak barrels where the wine ages for 24 months, with an additional 10-month refinement in bottle. Vano's Canova pours a beautiful, bright ruby in the glass, offering a dazzling bouquet of ripe brambly fruits accented with notes of leather, cigar box and purple flowers. The full-bodied palate exhibits flavors of rich, dark cherry and blackberry preserves mixed with hints of forest floor and anise. The interplay of uplifting acidity and firm, yet well-integrated tannins guides you to a finish that displays depth, elegance and complexity. Pair with mushroom ravioli, black truffle risotto or herb-crusted beef roast.

Imagine a rose, just beginning to bloom while wild sun drenched raspberries peek out from beneath dried leaves creating a subtle aromatic landscape. On the palate, it's like biting into a hard sour cherry candy infused with dried mint. Dusty tannins and a savory finish, with a slight astringent twist, make this a Barbaresco to contemplate from 2027 onward.
