Agur Winery was established in 1999 by winemaker Shoki Yashov, a pioneer of the Judean Hills wine region. In 2020, he brought in two partners to bring fresh ideas and spirit to invigorate Agur Winery. Elad Katz, with over a decade of wine industry management experience, and Eyal Drori, with multiple degrees in viticulture and wine and vineyard science, as well as winery work in Italy, Crete and Israel, joined Shoki after years of friendship. Together, the three gentlemen combine their love of winemaking, the shared joy that wine brings and the incessant desire to improve their craft to produce a variety of wines from their vineyards in Mata, Ein Kerem and Givat Yeshayahu, with each expressing their unique characters of which the terroir allows.
Agur's Kessem red is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Carignan and Alicante Bouschet. Kessem means "magic" in Hebrew and this unique combination of grapes magically produce a welcoming, juicy wine. It pours a pretty ruby red in the glass, emitting aromas of tart cherry and raspberries mixed with notes of herb and brush. The palate is medium-bodied, showcasing those delightful red fruits which carry on through a long, satisfying finish. Versatile on the table and enjoyable on its own; recommended to drink slightly chilled.
