In 1970, Siro Pacenti purchased a property just north of the city of Montalcino, which contained the Pelagrilli vineyard; an ideal spot to grow Sangiovese. Later, the estate expanded into the south of Montalcino in Piancornello, where the family, at Siro Pacenti's direction, planted an additional 5 hectares of vines. Today, Siro Pacenti covers 22 hectares of Sangiovese and is run by Siro's son Giancarlo. It is one of the few estates that truly represents the varying expressions of Montalcino. The care taken in the vineyards and respect Giancarlo shows the land is reflected in these terroir driven wines. Siro Pacenti is the optimal expression of Brunello di Montalcino, embodying finesse, tradition, and balance.
Siro Pacenti's Pelagrilli Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100% Sangiovese harvested from the estate's Pelagrilli vineyard north of Montalcino. All grapes are hand-harvested and sorted before undergoing fermentation in stainless steel and aging for 24 months in French oak barriques, followed by another 2 years aging in bottle. In the glass, the wine pours an alluring brick-red color with ruby highlights. Aromas of rose petals, cedar and fresh cherries plume from the glass. On the palate, the wine is focused and refreshing but with layers of flavors — cacao, dried herbs and black cherries — held together by tight-knit tannins. Drink now or over the next 10 years.

Packed with vivid black cherry, black currant and plum fruit, as well as iron, sanguine and tobacco accents, this red shows some power and tension, but also grace and balance. The lingering aftertaste features bright, ripe fruit and wild herbs. Best from 2027 through 2043. 2,000 cases made, 680 cases imported.

A beguiling blend of mint, cedar and spiced orange slowly gives way to dried strawberries as the spicy and seductive 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Pelagrilli blossoms in the glass. Silky and round, it flows across the palate with a dense wave of ripe red and black fruits complicated by a bitter bite of clove and dark chocolate. It finishes long and inward, structured with sweet tannins as echoes of violet and lavender fade. I can really feel the heavy clay soils in this rendition of Pelagrilli, as they add a weight and plush feeling, yet still, the energy of the vintage shines through.
