The Lackner-Tinnacher estate is nestled between vineyards and orchards on a chain of hills in Steinbach near the municipality of Gamlitz in Austria's Styria. The vines have been cultivated here for centuries; in fact, four of the estate’s vineyards were described in detail in the Josephine land register of 1778. Today, Katharina Tinnacher and her family cultivate 27 hectares of vineyard on the steep slopes of Southern Styria at an altitude of 400-500 meters. The family grows Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Welschriesling, Weissburgunder, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris, all of which are farmed organically.
The Gamlitz Sauvignon Blanc is made from hand harvested grapes grown in the Welles vineyard, which features a stony subsoil together with sand and gravel on this steep mountain ridge at an altitude of 430-500 meters. The grapes are fermented with native yeasts in a mix of large oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, then aged on the fine lees for 4 months. Light gold color with aromas of gooseberry, cassis, pepper and passion fruit that explode from the glass. The palate is multi-layered with flavors of lemon grass, fresh lime, papaya and verbena, showcasing incredible energy with elegant acidity and brisk refreshment. Enjoy with schnitzel and a simple garden salad.
