Stephan Steinmetz took over his 6 hectare family estate in the Mosel in 1992, when he was only 22 years old. Today, along with his wife, Petra, and two young children, the Steinmetz family make a range of enticing dry and sparkling wines from Elbling, Weissburgunder and Grauburgunder. All vineyard work is done by hand with great attention to detail and a respectful approach to nature. The wines are vinified and aged in stainless steel. In both the vineyard and the cellar, Stephan and family intervene as little as possible while working as sustainably as they can. These wines are literally hand made. The results are some truly stunning wines and incredible values in the Mosel.
The Steinmetz Grauburgunder pours a pale gold in the glass, presenting a mouthwatering bouquet of white orchard and stone fruits accented with notes of citrus blossoms and a touch of marzipan. The medium-bodied palate is vibrant and lively with a zippy acidity that highlights this wine's pear and white apricot flavors. Those bright fruits are underlain by a subtle chalky minerality that helps guide this wonderful white towards a fresh, lengthy finish. Enjoy with assorted grilled sausages, pan-fried pork chops or herb-roasted chicken.
