Pikasi is the passion project of Matic Rodica, a young winemaker from Istria, who also has close family ties to the Vipava Valley. This wine region is located on the western side of Slovenia bordering the Italian wine appellations of Friuil and Collio. It is in the Vipava Valley that Matic works with close friend and vine grower, Petr Stegovic, sourcing sustainably-farmed, indigenous grapes to create a lineup of naturally-fermented varietal wines – Pinela, Zelen, Rebula, Barbera and Barbera Rose. Matic is also a professional ballroom dancer and all of the Pikasi labels are adorned with art inspired by his own dance photos. Matic's Pikasi wines are made in a fresh and approachable style and offer a pure and balanced expression of each grape varietal.

The Pikasi Pinela pours a light yellow color emitting elegant aromas of stone and ripe citrus fruits mixed with notes of white flowers and almond. The attack is textured with flavors of white peach, fresh pears and Meyer lemon washing over the palate balance by a delightful acidity and savory minerality. The finish is mouthwatering and lingering. Delicious on its own, but this white can be enjoyed with a variety of lighter fare. Try with a field greens salad with shaved pecorino Romano, lemon juice and olive oil, almond-crusted tilapia or herb-roasted chicken.
