Located in Montesarchio at the foot of Monte Taburno in Benevento, Campania, Masseria Frattasi has been producing wine since 1779. Today, the estate is run by Pasquale Clemente and his family who farm their vineyards with the utmost care and respect for nature and tradition. The estate consists of 30 hectares of vineyards grown between 500-920 meters (plus 10 hectares of ancient olive groves) mostly in the mountain wilderness of Montesarchio, though they also farm vineyards in Anacapri and Baselice. The estate is blessed with some of the oldest vineyards in Campania — many of which predate phylloxera — which Pasquale uses as genetic material for new vineyards, improving the quality of their vines while also saving many historic cultivars from extinction.
Masseria's Bonea Falanghina del Sannio is made from 100% Falanghina from the estate's oldest vineyard, a single Cru in Montesarchio, on volcanic soils from 45-year-old vines at an altitude of 500 meters. All grapes are hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks, then aged in tank for several months before bottling. In the glass, the wine shows a brilliant lemon color with green highlights. Complex aromas of floral blossoms, white peach, pear and sea spray envelop the senses. The palate is medium-bodied with vibrant acids and a complex saline minerality to complement the energetic fruit profile. The finish is long and powerful, a reflection of the volcanic soils of the vineyard, the vine age and exemplary farming and winemaking. This is a textured, powerful mountain white with tension, refreshment and brio: a masterpiece of Italian wine. Enjoy with seafood, particularly shrimp, scallops or clams with lemon, herbs and garlic.
