Weingut Oppenauer is committed to making wines that bring people together, and one of the best ways to achieve thier goal, is to make affordable wine. They were the first winery in the village of Poysdorf in the Weinviertel to convert to organic farming. In 2003, Rainer Oppenauer's father decided to convert all their land to organic farming, including the 85ha dedicated to other crops like wheat, rye, spelt, and fruit trees. The farm has been in the family for over 200 years, though it wasn't until the 1950s when they first started bottling wine with the Oppenauer name. The Oppenauer family wants their work to go beyond organics and encompass a larger notion of ecology, from making their own compost right down to the grapeseed oil that they’ve been producing since 2010.
Oppenauer's 100% Zweigelt displays a wonderful ruby color flecked with garnet. Lovely aromas of violets, cherries and ripe strawberries plume from the glass. On the palate, the wine shows subtle, integrated tannins and brisk acidity that provide a runway for the pure fruit flavors to land as they flow into a refreshing and surprsingly long finish. Enjoy with grilled sausages.
