In 1975, Michelle and Jean-Michell Masson created Domaine Masson-Blondelet, though at the time they were the sixth generation of winemakers in their family. In 1980 they constructed an underground, gravity flow winery. The estate consists of 21 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir vines in Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre. Masson-Blondelet is famous for their constant efforts to improve the quality of their vineyards soils. The domaine hasn't used chemical fertilizers for over 40 years, nor insecticide or weed-killers for the past 15. Today, the children, Pierre-Francois and Mélanie, are taking over the estate, becoming the seventh generation to farm the vines and make wine.
The Thauvenay Sancerre is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown in chalky Portlandian flinty soils from vines planted between 1985 and 2002. All grapes are fermented in stainless steel, resulting in a crisp, elegant, and versatile Sancerre to be enjoyed young and bright. Drink with fresh vegetable dishes or salads with fried goat cheese.
