Origin | California, Central Coast, Contra Costa |
Brothers Julian and Sebastian Erggelet founded their Contra Costa County estate in 2015. Julian and Sebastian were born and raised in southern Germany. While attending to their studies — Julian in Medicine and Sebastian in Philosophy & Economics — the brothers spent their free time among the vineyards of the Rhine Valley, exploring the joys of farming and learning about great wine. Once completing their studies, they journeyed the globe, working harvests and training their taste buds in cellars and kitchens throughout France, Spain, Switzerland and Australia. In 2014, the brothers moved to California, working all over Napa Valley for a year before starting to craft their own wines. The Erggelet brothers work with farmers in Contra Costa County where they source their grapes. The wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak and are bottled unfined and unfiltered.
The Erggelet Brothers' Zinfandel is sourced from vines of a minimum of 35 years of age, then refined in French oak for 9 months, followed by another 10 months in bottle. Deep ruby in the glass, this Zinfandel presents captivating aromas of ripe brambly fruits accented with notes of dried herbs and spice. On the palate, the wine is full of rich raspberry and blackberry flavors complemented with hints of bittersweet chocolate and licorice. Well-structured with velvety tannins, this Zin finishes long and complex. A wonderful pairing for your favorite barbecue... thickly-slathered ribs, chicken thighs or brisket, this Zinfandel will sing with all of them!
