Founded by Giovanni and Maria Abrigo in 1968, Azienda Agricola Abrigo Fratelli began as a typical Langa farm with livestock, cereal crops, orchards and nut groves, and of course, vineyards. Giovanni and Maria's son, Giorgio entered the family business in the mid 80's after completing his studies in agronomy, along with his wife, Paola. Giorgio worked the vineyards and Paola focused on the commercial expansion and marketing of the estate and wines. They were joined by their sons, Guilio and Sergio once they each graduated oenology school, in 2013 and 2015 respectively. Today, the third-generation family of winegrowers sustainably farms 13 hectares of vineyard planted to Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Favorita and Arneis.
The Abrigo Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba pours a bright ruby red highlighted with violet reflections. There is an abundance of ripe red berry fruit on the nose accented with a touch of dried herbs. The palate is dry, vibrant and well-balanced, packed with flavors of cherry and wild berries. A delightful acidity elevates these fruits and helps coast you to a lively and refreshing finish. Enjoy with a plate of cured meats and fresh cheese, though this will also pair well with light pastas and most white meat dishes.
