Château du Vieux Puit is located in the heart of the Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation on the right bank of the Garonne just across from Margaux. Established in 1996 by Jean-Pierre Bouillac, the estate is named for the still-functioning, 16th century well at the center of the property. At the age of 14, Jean-Pierre decided to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and become a wine nursery grower. After three decades working the most prestigious vineyards in Bordeaux, he planted his first five hectare plot of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in 1996. Today, the estate is comprised of 100 hectares of vines grown in soils of clay, limestone and gravel.
Château du Vieux Puit’s Cuvée Valette is an inviting blend of 80% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% each of Malbec and Petit Verdot. On the nose, there is an abundance of ripe red berry aromas mixed with a touch of floral spice. The palate is fresh and juicy, offering mouthwatering flavors of raspberries and red and black currants. The Cuvée Valette is extremely easy-drinking with bright, though delicate, acidity and silky tannins which lead to a long, delightful finish. Pair with anything off the grill… marinated London Broil, juicy cheeseburgers or assorted sausages.
