Domaine Robert-Gandon was established in 1973 by Christiane and Alain Robert with only two hectares. Today, the estate is comprised of 37 hectares of sustainably farmed, southwest- and southeast-facing vineyards located in Noizay and Chançay on slopes overlooking the Loire. Their bush-trained and trellised vines are protected from the northern winds from the Les Charmes forest. Since 2014, Christiane and Robert's children, Cyril and Catherine, have taken over the reins.
Robert-Gandon's Vouvray Brut is 100% Chenin Blanc from 20+ year old vines grown on sandy, clay-limestone soils. Fermentation takes place in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks where the wine ages on its fine lees for six months. Then, the wine ages sur latte for 16 -24 months. This Vouvray Brut pours a pale gold in the glass brightened by a steady stream of tiny bubbles. The nose is fresh and filled with aromas of stone and citrus fruits. On the palate, the wine is dry and crisp with gorgeous flavors of lime-zested peach and nectarine uplifted by a refreshing acidity. This wine is wonderful as an aperitif, but can pair well with sushi night or with dessert. Try fresh-caked apple pie or peach cobbler.
