In 2004, four local vine growers, founded Tenuta San Francesco to preserve the long-standing viticultural tradition of Campania's Amalfi Coast. Their winery is set in an 18th-century estate among the hillsides. It’s cooler here than in many other places in Campania with frequent maritime winds that act as a natural force against vine diseases and pests. The estate consists of 14 hectares of organically farmed vines planted to old pre-phylloxera vines: Tintore, Aglianco and Piedirosso for the reds, and Pepella, Ginestra, Biancazita, Biancatera, Falanghina and Biancolella for the whites. All the vineyards are characterized by high density planting and situated on steep sloped terraced lands between 200 and 600 meters above sea-level.
Tenuta San Francesco's Costa Amalfi Bianco is a blend of Falanghina, Biancolella, Pepella grown on soils of red clay and volcanic ash over limestone. The grapes are fermented and aged in stainless steel to preserve the wine's aromatic purity. In the glass the wine shows a pale-yellow color with intense aromas of white flowers, peaches, citrus and fresh herbs. The palate is crisp and refreshing with a taught mineral core and spine of zesty acidity to balance the round mouthfeel. Enjoy with seafood, seafood pastas or mozzarella and tomato salad.
