Château Yvonne has been nestled amongst vineyards in Parnay since the middle ages with the château itself dating to the 16th century. Records show that wine has been produced on site since 1813. In 1997, Yvonne and Jean-François Lamunière renovated the property and operated it for a decade before it was acquired by current proprietor Matthieu Vallée. Matthieu decided to keep the name Chateau Yvonne in homage to the incredible work done by the previous owners. The estate is comprised of eleven hectares of organically- (since 1997) and biodynamically-farmed (since 2012) vineyards planted to Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc in soils of limestone and tuffeau with gravel and sandy clay. All vineyard work is done manually and Matthieu crafts wines with minimal intervention. Today, the domaine is one of the best producers in Saumur.

Yvonne’s l’Ile Quatre Sous is 100% Cabernet Franc sourced from vines ranging from 20 to 70 years of age. Deep purple in the glass, the wine presents a beautiful bouquet of red and black fruits accented with notes of green pepper, earth and spice. The medium-bodied palate is soft and generous, loaded with ripe flavors or blackberry, cherry and blueberry intertwined with notes of tapenade, pepper and an earthy minerality. Mellow tannins, along with a touch of bright acidity, guide this delicious little bistro-style red to a tasty, enduring finish. Enjoy an assortment of roasted or grilled vegetables, grilled chicken thighs marinated in Moroccan spices or pork chops slathered in homemade barbecue sauce.
