Domaine de Léoville was a historic Médoc estate owned by the Las Cases family until it was split up into three distinct properties. In 1855 it was classified as a Deuxième Cru, or 2nd Growth. Château Léoville Las Cases was created from 3/5 of the original estate at the heart of the domian. The Château has bee managed by the same family sine the late 19th century. Today it is considered to be the greatest estate in Saint-Julien, and one of the leading "Super-Seconds" in the Médoc.
The soil of Château Léoville Las Cases is composed of Quaternary gravel, the famous "graves" of the Médoc, over gravelly sand and gravelly clay subsoils. The vineyards cover 98 hectares and are planted to 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. The wines of Léoville Las Cases are some of the most complex and stunning wines in Saint-Julien, and in good vintages can rival any Premier Grand Cru Classé.

Sleek and slightly austere in feel, with a cold cast iron note framing a core of tightly compressed cassis, plum and blackberry fruit flavors. Shows subtle flashes of tobacco and smoldering charcoal, as the finish lingers with verve. A stoic red. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Best from 2030 through 2045.
