Azienda Agricola Rosavica Benotti is a tiny, family-run farm located in the southeast part of the Roero zone of Piedmont. The winery — headed by Ermanno Cordero — was founded in 1955 is named after Ermanno's mother. A rising star of the Roero, Ermanno organically farms three hectares of vineyards grown on sandy soils of marl and planted to Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo. His parents, Rosavica and Antonio still help in the vineyards and his brother, Ignazio, assists in the cellar. The estate didn't start bottling under their own label until 2015 with Ermanno focusing on the uniqueness of his soils. It is because of these soils that his wines are juicy and drinkable with gorgeous aromatics and surprising complexity.
Ermanno's Nebbiolo is fermented in cement tanks using native yeasts for 8-10 days, then left in those tanks for an additional four months before the wine is bottled without filtration. Sitting a light ruby red in the glass, this Nebbiolo offers a vibrant nose of spiced red fruits mixed with a touch of dried violets. The palate is light and fresh displaying crunchy berry fruits (red cherry, cranberry, pomegranate) dusted with baking spice. There is just the right amount of acidity and tannin to provide the structure necessary to guide this delicious red to a gentle, refreshing finish. This is an incredibly versatile food wine... Try with most pastas, pizza or burgers.
