Cascina Pace was established in 1934 when Bernardino Negro purchased the small farmhouse and surrounding lands in the rolling hills of Roero. Bernardino's son, Giovanni, took over the property and kept that wonderful land alive until he passed the reins over to his two sons, Dino and Pietro, in 1996. Today, the two brothers tend to 22 hectares of vines planted to the indigenous varietals: Barbera, Nebbiolo, Arneis, Favorita and Chardonnay. Dino and Pietro are the family's fourth generation of farmers, as agriculture is the main way to make a living in the region. The brothers decided to increase the estate's wine production and directed their focus to their best vineyards using minimal chemical intervention. Dino and Pietro craft true farmer's wines, ones that tell a genuine story of Roero,
Cascina Pace's Roero Arneis pours a light straw yellow in the glass, with a greenish tinge. Before you can lift the glass to your nose, you are greeted with aromas of white orchard and stone fruit mixed with notes of wildflowers and chamomile. The palate exhibits full fruit flavors balanced by a light flinty minerality and the perfect amount of acidity. This Arneis is lovely to enjoy on its own, but will be a delicious companion to most seafood dishes, such as linguine alla vongole or broiled lobster tails with garlic butter.
