Château d'Yquem is an entity unto itself in Sauternes. It is the only château classified as Premier Cru Supérieur, or Superior First Growth, ahead of all the other Premier Crus in the 1855 Classification of Sauternes and Barsac. Without a doubt, this is the finest property in the region, producing the gold standard of botrytised dessert wine not only in Bordeaux, but in the entire world.

Yquem is located on the highest hill in Sauternes and is bestowed with the best conditions for ripening grapes and the development of noble rot. The vineyards consist of 110 hectares planted with 75% Sèmilon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc on a pebble and gravel topsoil over a clay subsoil. All grapes are hand harvested over multiple passes through the vineyard. The wine is fermented in 100% new French oak and aged in barrel for 36 months until bottling. The resulting wines can age for decades and are amongst the most coveted in the world.

A lovely, creamy, tropical style, with mango, papaya and guava notes lending a caressing feel, while singed almond and warm piecrust accents blossom through the lush finish. Just when you think that's all there is, toasted coconut, fig, orange blossom and persimmon details kick in, lending length and dimension. The finish is ridiculously long. Best from 2020 through 2060.
