Pelter Winery, located in the Golan Heights of northern Israel, was established by brothers, Tal and Nir Pelter in 2001, after Tal returned from oenology studies in Australia. There he witnessed how wine was ingrained in everyday life — as an enjoyment that was both affordable and accessible — and Tal wanted to introduce that approach to Israel. Tal runs the vineyards and makes the wine, while Nir is in charge of branding, marketing and sales. The Golan Heights wine region is characterized by a cold, dry climate that sees a high diurnal temperature shift. It sits at high altitude and is composed primarily of volcanic basalt soils which receive high levels of sunlight. These factors develop high-quality grapes which enjoy long, slow ripening and a unique depth of flavors.
Pelter’s Shiraz is part of their T-Selection series, which are limited-quantity wines produced from mature vines in selected vineyards. The Shiraz grapes are sourced from the Wind Vineyard, just north of Golan Heights. This wine possesses deep aromatics, with a nose of ripe dark fruits accented by hints of mocha and eucalyptus. The palate is soft, round and inviting, showcasing flavors of blue- and blackberries marked with a note of espresso. These fruit flavors are supported by fine, persistent tannins that guide this red to a full, long finish. Enjoy with braised lamb shoulder with red wine, apricots and ginger.
