Maison Marchand-Tawse is a micro-negociant collaboration between world-renowned, consulting winemaker Pascal Marchand and French-Canadian winery owner/financier Moray Tawse. Started in 2011, this project initially focused solely on négociant releases, though the purchase of Domaine Maume in Gevrey-Chambertin in 2012 has allowed for Marchand-Tawse to grow and expand their portfolio, which contains over 30 Premier Cru and 10 Grand Cru offerings. Marchand-Tawse owns and farms parcels in approximately twenty appellations, ranging from Bourgogne to Grand Cru, providing approximately 30% of their fruit supply. All fruit is hand-picked from biodynamically-farmed vineyards and different wines incorporate varying amounts of whole clusters into their final product. Wines are aged in both stainless-steel tanks and barrels. Combining expertise, passion and longstanding relationships with local growers, Marchand-Tawse creates exceptional wines that showcase the unique terroir of Burgundy.
Marchand-Tawse’s Monthélie is sourced from vines of 40-60 years of age. The wine spends ten months in French oak before it is bottled without fining or filtration. Bright ruby in color, this Monthélie jumps out of the glass with entrancing aromas of ripe red berry and stone fruits marked with earth and warm spice. The medium-bodied palate is elegant and supple, showcasing an abundance of cherry, plum and raspberry flavors impeccably balanced with a delicate acidity and well-integrated tannins. The finish is clean, focused and enduring. An excellent pairing for roasted duck with plum sauce or veal tenderloins with a wild mushroom sauce.
