Weingut Steininger is the village of Langenlois in Kamptal, Austria. The 135-hectare estate is owned by husband-and-wife Karl and Brigitta Steininger, who launched the winery in 1989 after Karl completed oenology school. Their oldest daughter Eva, and her husband Peter, are the next generation of winemakers: Peter is working with Karl in the winery while Eva is responsible for sales and marketing. The family aims to create wines that show the fruit and character of the Grüner Veltliner and Riesling grapes they work with; the flavors are clear, proud and expressive. Karl’s chief lesson to his children is that good wine cannot be rushed. It must be given the time it needs to develop, mature and evolve.
Steininger's Kamptal Grüner Veltliner is from grapes grown on soils of loess and clay. All grapes are hand harvested and fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged on the lees for 4 months. This is an excellent example of Kamptal Grüner Veltliner: aromatically enchanting with aromas and flavors of green herbs, white pepper, cucumber and citrus framed by a juicy body with perky acidity. Enjoy with roast vegetables and fried veal cutlets.
