Domaine Jean Vullien is run by Jean and his two sons, David and Olivier, in the Combe de Savoie where they work 69 acres of hillside vines. The domaine's holdings include all of the region's indigenous grape varietals (Jacquère, Altesse and Mondeuse) as well as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Though the Vulliens have been making wine for over 40 years, the family is perhaps best known as a leader in the vine nursery business, providing young vines to growers throughout France. In fact, after the Phylloxera epidemic in the 19th and early 20th centuries, about 25% of the Chardonnay used to replant Chablis came from their nursery.
This 100% Pinot Noir is grown on the dark Jurassic limestone and black marl soils of Freterive, St-Jean-de-la-Porte and Montmelian in the heart of the Combe de Savoie. After harvest the grapes undergo a strict selection and sorting before fermentation and maturation in stainless steel. The wine is light ruby in color with wonderful aromas of small red berries mixed with earth, suave tannins and a firm acidity. Enjoy with alpine cheeses or roast chicken.
