The history of Château Lynch-Moussas dates to 1610, when it was known as Domaine de Moussas-Bages. In 1748, the Lynch family acquired the estate and renamed it Château Lynch. In 1835, it was split into two estates, named for their respective locations (Châeau Lynch-Bages in Bages and Château Lynch-Moussas in Moussas). Château Lynch-Moussas was classified as a 5th Grand Cru Classé du Médoc in 1855. Subsequently, the property changed ownership twice, the final time in 1919 when the Castéja family purchased the estate. In 1970, Émile Castéja took over the reins of the Château, undertaking numerous works to overhaul the property: the replanting of the entire vineyard and increasing its size to 60 hectares, restoring the manor house to its former glory and renovating the cellar and winemaking facilities. The vines are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Merlot (30%) on gravelly soils with limestone subsoil. Today, Émile’s son, Philippe runs the Château which has gained renown for the high quality of its wines.

The Château Lynch-Moussas is a blend of predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot. The wine displays a deep, dark ruby color exhibiting an intense bouquet of red and black berry fruit accented with a hint of roses in bloom. The palate is rich and powerful with the Cabernet Sauvignon providing a strong mineral backbone to which the rounded fruit flavors (blackberry, blueberry and cassis) from the Merlot can cling. This wine has a silky mouthfeel with a ripe tannic structure that allows for excellent aging potential. The finish is long and smooth with a touch of spice. Enjoy with short ribs and creamy polenta, braised lamb shank with rosemary or thinly-sliced London broil.
