Dominique Sirot and Alexis Soulas met in working in the vineyards of Corsica, immediately established a kinship and embarked on their own project, Le Fief Noir. After scouting a number of different locations, Dominique and Alexis felt that Anjou was the place to establish their winery, raise their families and create expressive, terroir-driven wines. They settled on a 20-hectare estate in St-Lambert du Lattay in Anjou Noir, a part of the appellation rich in black schist soils, ideal for growing Chenin Blanc but also good for Cabernet Franc and the rare Grolleau. All vineyard work is organic with manual harvesting.

Le Fief Noir Cocagne is made from 100% Grolleau from 30-year old vines grown on soils of black schist. The grapes are given a short maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Only free-run juice is used and the wine is aged in concrete tanks for six months. Mid-garnet color with spicy dark fruit aromas and an intriguing earthy complexity, this medium-bodied wine shows great refreshment and structure with excellent concentration of flavor. Enjoy with simple grilled meats or smoked barbecue.
