Château La Tour Figeac is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé located in exception terroir. The vineyards used to be part of the massive Figeac property until 1879 when what became La Tour Figeac was sold to the Corbière family. Today the 15 hectare estate is run by Christine Derenoncourt and neighbors Château Figeac to the south, Château Cheval Blanc to the east and the appellation of Pomerol to its north and west. The vines are planted with 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc on a blend of gravel and sandy-clay above a clay subsoil. Since 1997, the vineyards are 100% Biodynamic.
The wines of Château La Tour Figeac are fermented using whole berries in a combination of stainless steel and open top, large oak tanks for 30 days, then aged in 50% new French oak barrels for an average of 18 months. Elegant and aromatically pure, La Tour Figeac displays dark floral notes with wonderful intensity of ripe, dark red fruits and silky tannins with lots of finesse and power on the finish.

This vineyard operated on organic principles has produced a firm, solidly structured wine. It is dense, full of tannins as much as black-currant fruits. All the elements are just beginning to come together. Drink from 2026.

A 70/30 split of Merlot and Cabernet Franc that saw 40% new oak, the 2018 Château La Tour Figeac reveals a deep ruby/purple color to go with a classy nose of spiced currants, black cherries, loamy soil, leather, and dried tobacco and herbal notes. It has a savory, complex nose yet brings plenty of sweet fruit and opulence on the palate, with ripe and polished tannins, a rounded, layered mouthfeel, and outstanding length on the finish. The balance is spot on, it has a great mid-palate, and I suspect it will have 15-20 years of overall longevity.

The 2018 La Tour Figeac is a pretty, gracious Saint- Émilion to drink now and over the next decade or so. Crushed rose petal, red berry, mint and sage all add nuance over time. The Cabernet Franc, 30% of the blend, is super expressive today.

Juicy, with fresh and forward blackberry and black currant coulis flavors that stretch out nicely, while licorice snap, bramble and apple wood accents fill in through the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2028. 3,500 cases made.
