In 2012, Larry Stone, the ninth American to become a Master Sommelier, purchased his dream vineyard site in the Eola-Amity Hills of the Willamette Valley, Oregon. Together with David Honig and Dominque Lafon, they founded Lingua Franca in 2015, with the spirit that wine is a universal language that brings people of different worlds to a common ground of shared conversation and shared enjoyment. In the 66-acre LS Vineyard, all farming is sustainable and guided by biodynamic principles as well as by respect for the environment, encouraging a healthy diversity of life. The soils are a mix of Jory, Jory-Geldermann and Nekia and the vineyard a combination of 18 different clones and rootstock. Winemaking is traditional and guided minimal intervention in the winery.

Bright ruby-red. Cherry and red currant scents are accompanied by building floral, succulent herb and exotic spice nuances. Shows very good depth as well as vivacity, offering juicy red and blue fruit, lavender, cola and mocha flavors that turn sweeter as the wine opens up. Tactile and focused in style, finishing impressively long and spicy, with mounting tannins and resonating cherry pit and floral notes.

The scents flowing from the glass-crushed cherries, baking spices and clean earth-introduce a complex wine with blackberry, black cherry, pepper, earth and rock components. The citrusy acids and stony minerality dominate the back palate and carry on through a drying finish. Roughly one-fifth of the barrels were new.

Keenly focused and steely in structure, this red offers vibrant cherry and pomegranate flavors accented by crushed stone and dusky spice. Builds tension toward snappy tannins. Drink now through 2030. 200 cases made.
