In 1977, Claude Lafond took over his father's 6.5 hectares of vines in the appellation of Reuilly in the Loire Valley. At the time, Reuilly was an AOC that made wine primarily for home consumption, with only 48 hectares of production. Claude grew his vineyard holdings to over 40 hectares, but more importantly, he convinced farmers in the area to plant vines and make wine. He also was instrumental in creating the Chai de Reuilly, a shared winemaking facility for local producers to make their own, individual wines. Today there are over 230 hectares of vineyards in production in Reuilly.
Lafond's Clos Fussay is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc grown on limestone soils with clay and gravel. The wine is extremely aromatic with intense notes of citrus, white fruits and white flowers. There is loads of fresh, mouth-watering acidity and a round mouthfeel that balances perfectly. Enjoy with crustaceans, grilled fish and assorted goat cheeses.
