Marche is home to Rosso Conero, a region that has enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance over the last twenty years. Small growers have been striking out on their own, trying to make a name for the local wine made of Montepulciano. The Brunori family was one of the first to stop selling grapes to the local cooperative and start producing wine from their own estate. They are now in their third generation of making some of the most vibrant and interesting wines in all of Italy. The vineyards of the Brunori estate encompass nine hectares of immaculately tended vines of Verdicchio, Sangiovese and Montepulciano. Sitting at 200 meters above sea level, the vines are rooted in limestone-rich soil. The Brunori's have always farmed without chemicals.
The Brunori Barco is made from 100% Montepulciano fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in a mix of concrete and oak casks for 6 months. The wine pours an intense ruby color with violet highlights. The wine shows a gorgeous balance of red fruit, earth and spice flavors framed by ample, drying tannis and a refreshing finish. The complement of bright fruit with depth of flavor is a real treat. Pair with baked pasta dishes or classic trattoria food.
