Groth Vineyards & Winery, the iconic California producer, is a rarity in today’s Napa Valley: a multi-generational, family-owned and operated estate. In 1981, Dennis and Judy Groth purchased a 121-acre vineyard property in the heart of Napa Valley’s Oakville district. Today, their daughter Suzanne is the second generation in charge, continuing the tradition of excellence started by her parents. This continuity of leadership and close family ties have allowed Groth to become one of the most revered estates, not only in Napa Valley, but all of America. The estate produces exceptional estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon that is full, lush and exquisitely elegant. In 1985, the Groth Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was the first American wine to receive a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker. Since, the family has continued to strive for perfection, consistently producing among the most respected wines in the Napa Valley.
The Groth Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous illustration of how classic, refined winemaking and meticulous farming can produce thrilling, age-worthy wines that showcase the brilliance of Napa's unique terroir. This deep and dense garnet-hued wine opens with macerated blackberry aromas intertwined with freshly-baked graham cracker crust. Layers of complexity unfold with the addition of cocoa nibs, hibiscus tea, hints of poppy seed and an underlying presence of graphite, adding depth and sophistication. On the palate, bright and refreshing notes of sour cherry and juicy raspberry take center stage, accompanied by the depth of black currant. A hint of rhubarb introduces a subtle tartness that complements the sweetness of the fruit and paprika notes add a nuanced spiciness. The tannins, initially robust, gradually melt away, leaving behind a velvety texture and finish. A classic wine, the Groth Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon is a must-have for any lover of Napa Cab. Drink now or age another 10 years.

Delivers a lovely, polished stream of cassis, plum and blackberry fruit flavors lined with warm vanilla, black licorice and sweet tobacco accents, with solid focus and grip on the finish. Still youthfully toasty but pleasurable now if you want that character. Hold this you want more elegance and nuance. -- Non-blind Groth Cabernet vertical (August 2024). Rich and luscious aromas of ripe plums and blackberries sprinkled with baking spices carry into flavorful black fruits layered with oak spices. Fine-grained tannins coat the mouth, balanced by juicy acidity that freshens the palate through a long finish. Impressive persistence. -Elaine Chukan Brown

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a fabulous introduction to the Groth wines. Soft, curvy and open-knit, the 2021 is already quite pleasing. Succulent dark red cherry/plum fruit, rose petal, cinnamon and a kick of sweet French oak all meld together. This pliant, seductive Cabernet Sauvignon is quite the charmer. Best of all, it will drink well right out of the gate.

Leading off the reds, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is deep purple-hued, with solid aromatics of ripe black fruits, tobacco, pen ink, and graphite. It's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, fine tannins, and outstanding length. A classic, fresher, solid Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, it will evolve for 10-12+ years if well stored. It has lots to love.
