Gutiérrez Colosía, a Sherry firm based in the town of El Puerto de Santa María, traces its roots back to 1838. For much of the twentieth century, the firm operated as an almacenista, aging and selling their wine to larger bodegas. It wasn't until 1997 that Juan Carlos Gutiérrez began bottling wines under his own label, Gutiérrez Colosía. The bodega benefits from being located on the banks of the Guadalete River, very close to where it empties into the Bay of Cádiz, where the resulting humidity produces a healthy, intense flor and distinct saline character in the resulting wines.
