In 1969, Jay Corley came to the Napa Valley to find land in which to plant an estate vineyard and make wine. Today, Monticello Vineyards is still owned and operated by the Corley family. Their over-riding philosophy is that great wines are made in the vineyards. The family farms five vineyards in the Napa Valley in Oak Knoll, Yountville, Rutherford and St. Helena planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Syrah.
The Monticello Vineyards Chardonnay comes from fruit grown on the Home Ranch Vineyard in the Oak Knoll district of Napa Valley. This Chardonnay possesses a lovely bouquet of white orchard, stone and tropical fruit accented with notes of dried fig and vanilla. The palate is awash with flavors of green apple, pear and apricot purée. There is a beautifully delicate acidity that is wrapped around this delicious core of fruit. A lightly toasted note carries through to a creamy, rounded finish. Try will grilled lobster tails or bacon-wrapped chicken with a creamy shallot sauce.
